Mississinewa 1812 is the largest War of 1812 living history event in the United States - a unique opportunity to learn about America’s early frontier days through hands-on history. Hosted by the not-for-profit Mississinewa Battlefield Society, this annual event commemorates the Battle of Mississinewa, which took place right here in Grant County on December 17th and 18th, 1812. Families, students, and history lovers of all ages can explore authentic camps, meet historical reenactors, and experience life in the Indiana Territory as it was over 200 years ago. Step into the past, and discover the stories that helped shape our nation.

The vast 110 acres of pub­lic land con­sist of the pris­tine Gar­dens of Mat­ter Park (see Gar­dens as sep­a­rate park), play­grounds, sev­en shel­ters through­out the park, a band shell, ten­nis courts, pick­le­ball courts, disc golf course, base­ball dia­mond, and a catch & release fish­ing pond. The Free­dom Memo­r­i­al hon­or­ing our nation’s mil­i­tary is locat­ed in Mat­ter Park near the band­shell. The lux­u­ri­ous Gar­dens of Mat­ter Park and a spe­cial needs play­ground, Friend­ship Cor­ner, are also locat­ed in Mat­ter Park. Hours: 7am-11pm

Set in Matter Park with tennis courts, play grounds, shelters, and a softball field. Features rolling hills, a creek, a river, woods, and open holes. Mostly shorter holes but there are a couple longer holes to air it out. An 18-hole disc golf course run­ning through­out Mat­ter Park. No charge. First come, first serve.

Mis­sissinewa Riverwalk

The City of Mar­i­on is for­tu­nate to be one of the des­ti­na­tions of the Mis­sissinewa Riv­er, as it flows through the city includ­ing downtown. The Mis­sissinewa River­walk is a 2.25 mile-long walk­ing path which begins at the Wash­ing­ton Street Bridge and 1st Street, and extends through to the fish­ing pond in Mat­ter Park. The Mis­sissinewa River­walk is a trail for both recre­ation and phys­i­cal fit­ness. Res­i­dents and vis­i­tors take advan­tage of the paved trail in a vari­ety of ways. Along the Mis­sissinewa River­walk, you’ll pass through sev­er­al pub­lic parks which have play­grounds, shel­ters with seat­ing and open grills, his­tor­i­cal mon­u­ments, bench­es with com­mem­o­ra­tive plaques, and much more…all while enjoy­ing the beau­ti­ful Mis­sissinewa Riv­er on your journey.

Pickleball is played at the fresh, new courts in Matter Park, east of the Gardens of Matter Park (N River Rd &, N Quarry Rd, Marion, IN 46952). The courts are lighted; the lights automatically turn on at dusk until 11pm. These courts are near Shel­ter 2 and has restroom access. No charge. First come, first serve.

Attrac­tions include a lazy riv­er, two rac­er slides, ‘big flush’ slide, large wave pool, and kid­die play area with a play pad topped with a large buck­et water-drop mak­ing a big splash! We have con­ces­sion stands and plen­ty of seat­ing for our guests includ­ing cabana rentals. Our friend­ly staff can’t wait to greet you and help you have a won­der­ful experience.
